The River Current Artist Series Debuts at Palmetto Historical Park

A new art initiative is bringing local creativity into one of Palmetto’s most historic spaces. The Palmetto Historical Commission has launched The River Current – Artist Series, a rotating art exhibit designed to showcase regional artists while connecting art with the community’s rich heritage.

Last week, the park hosted the opening reception for the inaugural exhibit, welcoming guests to the historic Carnegie Library to meet the first featured artist, Cory Wright. The event marked the official debut of the series and introduced visitors to Wright’s work, which captures scenes inspired by Florida’s coastal landscapes, historic settings, and everyday moments found throughout the region.

Wright, selected as the Heritage Month featured artist, is known for her plein-air style and ability to create memorable images drawn from both local scenery and travels abroad. Her collection reflects the character and natural beauty that define life along the Manatee River and the surrounding Gulf Coast communities.

The artwork will remain on display throughout the month of March inside the Carnegie Library at Palmetto Historical Park, and all pieces in the exhibit are available for purchase. A portion of each sale benefits the Palmetto Historical Commission, supporting the organization’s free student programs, educational field trips, and local history events held throughout the year.

With the first exhibit now underway, organizers are already planning the next installation. The Palmetto Historical Commission is currently seeking its next featured artist for the April–May rotation, continuing the goal of bringing new audiences to the park while supporting local artists.

The River Current Artist Series is part of a broader effort to highlight the connection between Palmetto’s history, culture, and creative community, encouraging residents and visitors alike to experience both art and local heritage in a meaningful way.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the park during March to view the exhibit and explore the historic grounds of Palmetto Historical Park, located at 515 10th Avenue West in Palmetto.
